That was a 2% tax on tea, not the entire tax rate.

Not defending high taxes, but they didn’t have sky scrapers, power grids, and asphalt roads in 1775 either. Those need a lot of money to maintain. But the most important thing is we need the money to make things go boom /s

the tolerance of the tax rate is very dependent on how much the government gives back.
Look at scandinavia, high tax, happy people.

Historically illiterate. Not only did we have the revolution because of taxation WITHOUT REPRESENATION, only the wealthiest Americans get taxed at a 37 percent tax rate.
This is just a meme to convince people to cut taxes for the rich even more.

The 2% was specifically on tea. The 37% is the top income bracket for over 640,000. As in you pay that on the money you make *after* the first 640,000.
But let me check on my smartphone if things might have changed between these two periods of time.

Just an FYI – For the 2025 tax year, you must have taxable income over $**626,350** as a single filer or **$751,600** for married couples filing jointly to be in the 37% tax bracket. In 2026, these thresholds increase due to inflation to **$640,600** for single filers and **$768,600** for married couples filing jointly.
So if any of those folks are in the 37% tax bracket then good on them.

Somehow lots of Americans got it in their heads that it was ” no taxation,” instead of “no taxation without representation.” The representation is the important part… 🙄

I like how your issue is the quantity of tax rather than how they are used. The US spends 850 billion on the military. A fraction of that could give you universal healthcare and at least half of you would vite against it because you think it’s communism or that some people don’t deserve it.

JFC… Americans don’t pay anywhere near 36% tax rate.
